Federer progressed to his twelfth Australian Open semi-last on Tuesday with a
proficient 7-6(4) 6-2 6-4 triumph over 6th seed Tomas Berdych.
Federer was squeezed hard in the opening set, enjoying it in
a tie-reprieve in the wake of swapping administration breaks with Berdych,
before the Swiss won the critical focuses in the second set to take control of
the match.
The Czech softened ahead of schedule up the third set before
17-times great hammer victor Federer crushed spirit in the third diversion and
increased the weight on his 30-year-old adversary, softening again up the ninth
then serving out to seal it in two hours, 16 minutes.
Federer now holds up the victor of the quarter-last between
world number one Novak Djokovic and Japan's Kei Nishikori, who play later on
Rod Laver Arena.
